“As soon as the kids grow up…”
“As soon as I get my finances settled…”
“As soon as I retire…”
“As soon as I lose weight…”
“As soon as the dog dies…”
“As soon as I get a new car…”
“As soon as we renovate the house…”
“As soon as I finish school…”
As soon as the things you’re waiting on occur, a new set of excuses will appear. Stop waiting for “as soon as” and get started now.
I’ve had people tell me that they want to go on a short-term mission trip “as soon as.” Start lining it up now. Don’t have a passport? Go to the post office today and get an application or download an application. Is money a problem? Start tucking away a little bit each month.
Others have told me, “I’m going to write a book as soon as…” Make an appointment with yourself each day to sit and write. Stick to it. You can write a novel in less than three months by writing 1000 words per day.
“I’m going to read the Bible through as soon as…” Read three chapters a day and five on Sundays and you’ll read the Bible through in a year.
The next time you utter the phrase “as soon as” step back and evaluate why you said that and ask, “Why later? Why not now?” Later may be to late.
